As I am approaching my middle 30’s it seems a lot of my friends and family are asking for different types of fitness gifts for their birthdays or holiday events. I thought it would be a good idea to list some different high end home gym equipment that would make for a great gift.
1. Treadmill
I wanted to get this one out of the way because treadmills are one of the most popular pieces of home gym equipment purchased. For a person who is an avid walker or runner this is perfect, but for a beginner it is a very expensive item to buy new. A treadmill is good because it burns more calories than an exercise bike, but the pounding might not be ideal for those with joint or muscles issues.
2. Elliptical or Exercise Bike
I included these to items together even though they are very different machines. I lumped them in with each other because they both offer a great low impact, and high calorie burning workout. However, for some having a seat is perfect so an exercise bike works, but for people like me who want a more uptempo workout the elliptical machine is better. I suggest testing out many different brands to see which fits you the best.
3. Free Weight Equipment
If the person you are looking to buy some equipment for has some space to put some larger equipment than a Smith Machine, Bench Press, or Leg Press with weight included might be the answer. These are not inexpensive by any means but if a group of people contribute it is not that hard to find a piece of equipment at a reasonable price. This perfect for the avid weight lifter in your family and they will love you for it.
4. HEX Dumbbells or Bowflex Adjustable Dumbbells
I always wanted a wall of HEX dumbbells for my house but I don’t have the room so an alternative for me was to buy Bowflex Dumbbulls that can be adjusted up to 62.5 pounds. However, for some HEX dumbbells are the only way to go, and they can be a great annual gift. Buy a different weight combination each year till the collection is concluded. Individually they dumbbells are not that expensive, but to fill an entire collection could cost well over $1,000.
5. Home Gym
Bowflex and other companies make home gyms that use resistance rods to simulate 90+ exercises in an economical space. There are also home gyms that use weights but are much larger in stature. These items can be very expensive and can take up a lot of space, so don’t enter into a purchase lightly.
Unfortunately with home exercise equipment the more expensive an item is the better it is. However, the mild of the pack items are more than capable to meet a persons needs and will be more than adequate. Also, shop around for some used products. There is no better feeling than scoring a used piece of equipment at a steal of a price.
